Sexual politics

As a rule, I rarely blog about politics. But when sex enters the picture, it's difficult to leave the subject alone:

Details on the "sex scandal" regarding the governor of NY

News broadcasts are labeling this as a "sex scandal" and are harping on the "governor of NY was involved with a prostitute" issue when in reality there are more important issues here:

1) The governor had made it a policy to crack down on prostitution rings, making this a blatant act of hypocrisy

2) There is a question over his use of funds and how they were used in order to support his liasons with the prostitute

Personally, I don't care what consenting adults do behind closed doors, nor do I comprehend why sex is illegal if an exchange of money occurs in the process. My beef with this guy would be that he acted on this issue in one way in public and quite another in private. It makes me wonder why laws like this exist to begin with--I think that they hurt and benefit the wrong people.

The fact that the media is choosing to focus on the governor's involvement with the prostitute versus the governor was a hypocrite or that he may have misused finances in the process just speaks volumes of our culture.

Feel free to sound off on this one: what is your opinion of the "oldest profession in the world", and how do you like it portrayed, if at all, within erotic romance novels?

Love & Magic,

-A
