A sneak peek at The Oath, Book 1: Bound
Excerpt:
Lila studied the initiator with care. All she saw, with the black painted mask upon his face were his intense, dark eyes that bored into her skull.
Nervous, she swallowed hard. No turning back.
The gentleman with the white gem grabbed her hair and yanked her head back. Lila sucked in her breath, unable to control the thrill that ranthrough her body at the rough gesture. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the black-gemmed male take hold of a rather elaborate flogger. From it hung numerous, long strands of thin black leather. With a sharp crack, it struck her side, and she winced. The sound reverberated in the small room.Lightheadedness filled her, and she surveyed her situation. Three men surrounded her and had her tied to what appeared to be two wooden planks in theform of a huge X, and this for the purpose of attaining self-knowledge?
I must be crazy.

The Longest Night, a f/f free holiday read in the Dark Moon series, is available NOW!
Click on the cover to download/read more! The Longest Night - holiday short within the Dark Moon series
by Adrianne BrennanWinter Solstice marks the longest night of the year, a time for honoring many different holiday traditions. For vampires, observing the day when the sun shines the least is a sacred event.
Merideth's girlfriend Erin has invited her to honor this occasion at her apartment. Sneaking away from her duties at Clan Gladius, Merideth finds a warm and passionate embrace awaiting her to distract her from her woes. But with so much on their minds, how will Erin and Merideth spend their longest night together?
Excerpt:
It didn't take long for the two women to divest themselves of their clothing, and a dazed Merideth found both herself and Erin on the floor, their garments lying beneath them.
She caressed Erin's pale flesh and savored the sensation of skin upon skin. Erin's skin was almost as fair as her own, she realized as her fingertips trailed lightly over her stomach.
Erin groaned. "Oh, I've missed you so much, Meri."
Meri. That was Kalia's nickname for her too. She blinked away the thought. Merideth missed Kalia, but she also adored this dark-and-fair woman lying underneath her, her skin warm and inviting to the touch.
The sharp sensation of teeth scraping her nipple interrupted Merideth's thoughts. She cried aloud.
Blood, I want her so bad.
"Just think," Erin murmured, her mouth muffled by Merideth's breast, "we have a nice, long night ahead of us."

Oh the weather outside is frightful....
I'm awaiting a huge winter storm that's due to hit my area tomorrow. The joys of living in the New England!
Aside from shoveling, I may stay inside and make some nice mulled wine--a favorite holiday treat of mine. :)
Does anyone have any favorite foods, beverages, or traditions that they typically have during this time of year? Things which you MUST have that make the winter season good?
I hate winter, so anything I do must be absolutely fabulous to get me to have fun. LOL
Speaking of winter, I have some free holiday reads, one which is up and the other which will be up soon:

Click on the cover to download/read more! | A Memory on Record - holiday short within the Dark Moon series by Adrianne Brennan
Finding Jesse, Amanda's lover and Sire, the right gift for the Winter Solstice brings her great frustration this holiday season. A treasured memory provides the ideal solution to her predicament. Despite all that has changed in her life, can she uncover a way to show him how much she cares? Excerpt: “You’re crazy,” Jesse whispered in between trailing fevered kisses down Amanda's neck. “I hope we don’t get caught.” “In Central Park past midnight?” Feeling bold due to wine and holiday spirits, she reached for the bulge in his pants. With a gentle hand she massaged his swollen member. Wow, he’s rock hard. He uttered a low groan, his lips pressed against her neck, and Amanda smiled. They lay tucked away in trees and frozen bushes with snow falling around them, and she was doing her best to tempt him into having hot sex in the great outdoors. Every Winter Solstice should be celebrated like this. |

Anyone want to know whether or not you should date a witch? Or a vampire?
If this interview doesn't allow you to get to know me better...I don't know what will. LOL
Yesterday I was interviewed live on the blog talk radio show Coffee with Oly! The show has been archived, and people are free to listen to it at their leisure:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Olympias/2008/12/07/Coffee-with-Oly-Author-Adrianne-Brennan
You'll get to hear me talk about the vampire genre, the care and feeding of your Muse, my opinions of both True Blood and Twilight, pagan religions represented in fiction, vampire lifestylists, the joys of juggling a day job with your writing career, why you should (or shouldn't) date a witch, and even hear me do an impromptu reading of an excerpt from Blood of the Dark Moon!
And you get to hear me laugh. A lot. I had a lot of fun on the show; Olympias is a great host and had many good questions to ask of me. :)

Blood and Mint Chocolates is now contracted with Freya's Bower!
I am pleased to announce that Blood and Mint Chocolates, a standalone short story within the Dark Moon series, has just been offered a contract with Freya’s Bower.
The story is set after Blood of the Dark Moon and just before its upcoming sequel, Shadows of the Dark Moon.
Here’s a quick blurb:
- Merideth, a vampire and librarian, spends most of her nights researching and book collecting for Clan Gladius within the Order of the Dragon and the Rose. Much to her surprise, the head of Clan Gladius unexpectedly presents her with a luxurious gift: a trip to stay at Hotel Paradisio at Crystal Island!
The heat is on at the island resort under moonlit skies and palm trees. The tropical heat quickly transforms into a scorching hot time that will be seared into her memory forever when she runs into her long time crush, Kalia. Merideth is presented with a gift from a goddess which allows her to experience in reality what she only could before in dreams. But can their passion survive the intrigue and potential dangers that await them, or will it only last as long as her vacation?
A hot lesbian romance and occult intrigue sets the stage for the next book. The world of the Order of the Dragon and the Rose is about to change, and this story is a small sliver of what’s to come.

Website design tweaks!
I chose a different background image and color layout for my website last night, and I really think that it goes well with the new cover art for Blood of the Dark Moon!
But don’t take my word for it–see for yourself:

Oct and Nov events now posted on site, plus updates on Dark Moon series!
Check it out: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/events.html
November’s will be the one to be under high amounts of change no doubt, but do tune in to October! I have one booksigning taking place on Oct 26 in Cambridge, MA. Stop on by and get the last of the out of print copies of Blood of the Dark Moon while supplies last and before its re-release! You never know…could be worth lots of money someday.
Also, Oct 1 is busy, busy, busy for me. I’ll be not on one or two but THREE loop chats throughout the day! Do stop on by any of them and find out the latest in the Dark Moon series.
I also want to give a heads-up: just about finishing editing Blood and Mint Chocolates, and Shadows of the Dark Moon is also underway. Blood and Mint Chocolates takes place in between the two books and has a few important plot details amidst lots of really sexy vampire girl action! Shadows of the Dark Moon is where the battle between the Order of the Dragon and the Rose and the Order of the Golden Cross really heats up…along with Amanda and Jesse’s relationship.
In the meantime, Blood of the Dark Moon is now in the editing stage with my editor. Once that finishes up, we’ll have some idea of its release date.
So, stay tuned, watch this space, you get the idea.

Culture, politics and the sacred feminine
As a writer, I rarely touch on political topics in my blog but would like to share the following emailing list which I joined recently:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sacredfeminineideals
If you're interested in promoting sacred feminine ideals in culture and politics, this is definitely the list for you. This is especially a good list for people who are concerned about women's rights issues and the upcoming election.

Sound off! What's the funniest dream you ever had?
I was making fun of some commercial. Something to do with “Parents, do you know what your kids are doing on the Internet?” followed by everything they could be doing.
So I started chiming in, “Do you know what your child is doing on the Internet? Writing snuff fic!” and immediately saw this angelic little blonde girl with pink ribbons in her hair, smiling innocently at the computer.
I woke up laughing hysteriously for 30 min straight.
So what’s the funniest dream you ever had? Have you ever woken yourself up laughing?

Calling all local artists and businesses! Here is a good promo opportunity for you. :)
Are you looking to bring some business to your shop or craft of choice? Every booksigning I do, I look for local artists who wish to promote their wares and use a donated item that they themselves made which is then given away as a prize. Gift certificates to your shop are also acceptable.
People are entered to win when they buy a copy of my book on CD. I usually offer 2-3 prizes per booksigning, and it helps to get some good cross-promo going.
Last booksigning I had a gorgeous framed photograph and a beautifully made beaded choker. At Mass Morgue 2008, I’d be looking for anyone local or willing to mail me an item that they wish to have entered as a prize. I also request flyers, business cards, and anything pertinent that I can put on display with your donated prize so others can see where it came from.
If you are at all interested, email me at adrianne(at)adriannebrennan(dot)com or reply to this post with your contact info.

Blood of the Dark Moon novel has been offered a new contract!
I am VERY pleased to announce that my book, Blood of the Dark Moon, the first in the Dark Moon series, has been offered a contract with Freya's Bower.
Those of you who have been wondering when the book would be back with a publisher...well, now you know! Release date is forthcoming, but I will keep people posted.
Here's a quick blurb of my book:
- Amanda, graduate student and devoted follower of the Greek god Apollo, is intrigued when she meets Jesse, a handsome young scholar who shares her love of both the classics and the occult. He quickly sparks her interest--and ignites a dark flame of passion between them. Together, they embark on a shadowy path that leads Amanda straight into Jesse's scintillating underworld of vampires, magick, and secret societies.
Little does Amanda know she is about to fulfill a legacy that began over thirty years ago and ended in tragedy. Can she learn the truth about who she really is in time to help those whom she has grown to care about, and truly find happiness in her new life with Jesse?
Blood of the Dark Moon combines the classic eroticism of vampires with a touch of modern sensual romance and occult intrigue.
More information about it and upcoming works can be found here: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/botdm.html
Thanks to all of you for your support since my previous publisher's closing. It meant (and means) a great deal to me. I am looking forward to providing my readers with more of my works to come.

CONTEST! How would you like a cool character in a future book named after YOU?
I'm currently chatting with the rest of the Midnight Seductions Authors today over at Rites of Romance, and have a contest going on there until 11pm EST tonight!
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RoRRChatters
I'm about to post a few excerpts from my WIPs to the loop chat--you'll know the WIPs because it'll be indicated as such VERY clearly in the subject line! For every lurker and/or non-MSA member that comes out and comments on these gets to be entered into a special drawing! If you comment by replying to the emails by 11pm EST tonight and mention that you are indeed interested in being entered into the contest, you are eligible!!
The drawing will be done shortly thereafter and the lucky winner will get a character named after them in their WIP of choice, and mentioned in the foreword of that book. That could be any of the following:
- Shadows of the Dark Moon, the sequel to Blood of the Dark Moon in the Dark Moon series
- Blood and Mint Chocolates, an upcoming f/f vampire erotic romance novella in the Dark Moon series
- My Other Car is a Broom, the first book in a yet unnamed series involving modern witches in Salem, the sidhe, and a very bizarre but intense love triangle.
The contest was going on yesterday in two other groups, but due to issues with Yahoo I am extending it to another DAY!

Yes Virginia, piracy hurts epubs and ebook authors.
Once again, people are yelling that we should give away our ebooks for free and let "piracy" rule, and once again I step in and point out the realities of epublishing.
I think if I had a nickel for every person who didn't understand the ebook industry or how this sort of thing affects us, I could quit my day job and being a full time writer.

Boston is INSANE.
I went to work this morning to see people dressed like it was a combo between Halloween and Mardi Gras--minus the flashing of tits for beads.
One gal was wearing shamrock beads however--along with a green outfit and this huge felt hat that was shaped like a beer mug with fluffy white cotton on top to resemble foam. Written on the front was "Happy St Patrick's Day."
Omgs.
Over here it's apparently a citywide holiday. Some businesses will actually give the employees off--others take the day off. Some people will start going in and celebrating as early as the morning hours in order to get into the pubs and whatnot.
I think they're nuts. O_O I'm horribly Irish (my mom has like four names and her maiden name is an "O'" name), but...wow. Some people get REALLY into this holiday, like above and beyond the call of duty.
Of course, being vegan I didn't get corned beef and cabbage for lunch. But I had a veggie burger and a side salad with a nice pinot noir--which the waitress managed to knock over and spill all over the counter, my pants, and my scarf. Thankfully both were black. :P
And that was my St Patrick's Day. Right now I am battling massive quantities of indigestion which I can only blame on nerves, lack of sleep, and Monday, so I will be taking something strong to combat it and head to bed early.
I loves you all.

Sexual politics
As a rule, I rarely blog about politics. But when sex enters the picture, it's difficult to leave the subject alone:
Details on the "sex scandal" regarding the governor of NY
News broadcasts are labeling this as a "sex scandal" and are harping on the "governor of NY was involved with a prostitute" issue when in reality there are more important issues here:
1) The governor had made it a policy to crack down on prostitution rings, making this a blatant act of hypocrisy
2) There is a question over his use of funds and how they were used in order to support his liasons with the prostitute
Personally, I don't care what consenting adults do behind closed doors, nor do I comprehend why sex is illegal if an exchange of money occurs in the process. My beef with this guy would be that he acted on this issue in one way in public and quite another in private. It makes me wonder why laws like this exist to begin with--I think that they hurt and benefit the wrong people.
The fact that the media is choosing to focus on the governor's involvement with the prostitute versus the governor was a hypocrite or that he may have misused finances in the process just speaks volumes of our culture.
Feel free to sound off on this one: what is your opinion of the "oldest profession in the world", and how do you like it portrayed, if at all, within erotic romance novels?

The pre-"I just left EPICon and here are my posts about it" post
I'm currently sitting in the airport with the joys of wifi, an outlet for my laptop's electrical cord, a glass of pinot gris, and lots of free time on my hands.
My plane does not start to board until 11:25pm DST. Yes folks, I'm coming back home on a red eye. I had a fabulous time at the con and I can't wait to go on and on about how much I loved it and everything I did love about it, and just...everything.
In the meantime, I've been working on putting a blog directly on my site. This is once again what happens when I have too much free time on my hands:
http://www.adriannebrennan.com/blog/
It's definitely a WIP and heavily under construction. I'm not so certain that I like all of the colors, et cetera, but it's good for now and I'll be crossposting to there and the "usual suspects" (Livejournal, MySpace, Insanejournal, Blogger, etc).

I am signing copies of my book and giving away prizes TONIGHT @ NEDSW Ball in Arlington MA @ 8pm!
I will be selling and signing copies of my ebook on CD, Blood of the Dark Moon, the first in the Dark Moon series and reviewed with great praise by pagan and occult book fiction and non-fiction reviewer Mike Gleason. If you enjoy tales of secret societies, vampires, paganism, mythology, vampire erotica, supernatural romance, urban fantasy and dark fantasy in general, the book is definitely up your alley.
Free reads of my book can be found here: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/excerpts.html
Reviews of my book, including Mike Gleason's, can be found here: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/reviews.html
Please note: last week my book has gone out of print, leaving the limited quantities of the book that I have on CD as the ONLY copies left available to purchase at this time. If you want to read this book and don't want to wait until it goes back into print, I would suggest either attending this event, purchasing a copy on my website, or contacting me to arrange for a sale.
Here are the details for those of you in the New England area or will be in the area around then:

Where: 370 Mass Ave, Arlington, MA 02474 (Arlington American Legion)

There will also be an after hours party from 12am til whenever for ball attendees. Location will be announced at ball.

I'll be there for the duration of the event at my own table. Please stop by and get your own copy of my ebook on CD! I'll even autograph it for you if you like. :) I also plan to have other goodies both as freebies and for sale, plus the chance to win prizes!
Local artists and craftsmen have donated in the past, and have for this event, jewelry and other handmade gifts for prizes. It supports their services and gives people a chance to win goodies if they buy my book! I have had a few donations from some very talented people from the New England and as far away as central NY, and so far include a beautiful framed photograph of a cobra and a black and red ribbon choker.

Calling all local artists! Still accepting items for promo.
I'm going to be vending a table for book sales/signings for Blood of the Dark Moon at the 7th Annual New England Darksidewalkers Ball, and typically what I do is give away prizes during such events. Anyone who buys a CD can have their name entered into a drawing. I like to give out more than one prize, and I like it to be local artists and craftsmen.
People who provide anything in the way of prizes in the form of their crafts can give me flyers, business cards, or whatever for their store. That way people who stop by know who donated them, and it supports people who do any form of crafts, whether it be jewelry, clothing, handbags, bookmarks, metalwork, woodcarving, et cetera.
If you are not local to Boston but are willing to ship your item(s) and/or business cards, that's fine too--I've had one person who has done that already.
Email me at adrianne (at) adriannebrennan (dot) com if you're interested, and we can work out something. I have a few donations already from locals but would gladly accept more. Please forward this to anyone who might be interested.

Update on Blood of the Dark Moon
I have a limited number of out-of-print copies of Blood of the Dark Moon on CD--but enough to put the offer up on my site for people who want them and don't want to wait until another publisher takes my book.
They still have the cover on them from Aphrodite's Apples--which is a gorgeous cover, btw--and every book I sell, I will autograph. If you have any requests in that regard (for gifts to friends, family, et cetera), then just let me know when you place the order.
It's $14.10 for each CD (including s/h and Paypal fees) and you can buy one here:
http://www.adriannebrennan.com/botdm.html
I'm expecting a shipment in for the book sale/signing next Saturday, Feb 23rd. If you are local, you will save money by buying them from me in person at that sale. Otherwise, you can arrange to meet me at some point and buy a copy. Just email me at adrianne (at) adriannebrennan (dot) com.
Offer lasts while supplies last.

Aphrodite's Apples is closing effective today.
Aphrodite's Apples, my publisher, is closing effective today.
What does this mean for me and my book? Here's a quick FAQ.
Q: Is there a way we can still buy your book?
A: Yes, there is. Fortunately unlike many, I bought a bunch of advance copies on CD directly from my publisher to resell at booksignings and events. Once Aphrodite's Apples closes, I will be selling them on my website for the price that they were on the website plus shipping, handling, and Paypal fees. They will be for sale while supplies last.
Q: Will you still be at the booksigning?
A: Yes, of course. Nothing changes that; I still have everything I need in order to be there--otherwise I wouldn't even be able to sell the books on my site.
Q: Can't you just put out your book yourself?
A: No, because I have no desire to be self-published.
Q: How about starting up your own company?
A: No. I want to be a writer, not a publisher.
Q: What publishing companies are you looking into?
A: There are a few that I've narrowed it down to, but unfortunately a few of them require that I have an original published work with them before I can take a reprint to them to be republished. It depends on what company I feel is best to represent my book and whether or not I have a chance at it going into print.
Q: When you get republished, will it be in print as well as ebook?
A: Depends on the publisher that takes it. Ideally, yes--even if down the road at some point depending on sales.
Q: What other writing projects do you have going on? What about that short story that was going into an AA anthology? Will you be submitting those elsewhere as well?
A: The short story will be expanded into a novella and sent off to another publisher. I also have another series in the works, the sequel to Blood of the Dark Moon in the works, plus other short stories that will be taking place in either universe of the series.
Like I said before to others, I'm trying to look at this as an opportunity, not a setback. It's more than likely I can get my book off to a really well grounded publishing company that could take it places. It's just what happens to it in the meantime and how long that will take that is the setback.

Calling local artists--care to do some promo?
Email me at adrianne (at) adriannebrennan (dot) com if you're interested, and we can work out something.

"Don't like our weather? Wait five minutes."
I live in eastern Massachusetts, and I think the subject line is a common phrase around here.
I never even knew of the term "thundersnow" or that it even existed until I moved to the area. When I first saw it in the forecast one afternoon in downtown Boston, I had a fifteen minute giggle fit. My co-worker thought it was just as funny--then the snow came pouring down and oh, the lightning!!
Anyone have any weird weather tales? I can't be the only one who deals with this shit or thinks it's funny.

Happy Mardi Gras!
Happy Mardi Gras everyone!
For those of you who do not know, Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday" and takes place the day before Ash Wednesday. I believe most people think of beads, parades, and alcohol when they think of Mardi Gras. Me personally, I think of New Orleans.
The first and last Mardi Gras in New Orleans I ever went to was the last one before Katrina hit. I am extremely disappointed that I haven't been able to visit New Orleans since. Aside from Boston, NYC's West Village, and Seattle it is one of the few cities I've been to that instantly felt like "home." I spent my dreams wandering down the streets of the French Quarter (AKA the Vieux Carré), remembering the sights and sounds of the shops and jazz clubs, the taste of beignets with cafe au lait, shrimp creole, and clove cigarettes.
I also remember someone pointing the levees out to my friends and me, saying that "If a Category 4 storm hit...." Oh, the sadness once those words became prophetic later on that year. I gave financially to the Red Cross a number of times since then on behalf of Katrina's victims--ALL of them, not just in New Orleans. A friend of mine in Mississippi discovered the joys of having his own life ripped away from him during that storm as well. Many people wondered how people would be able to move on, let alone be able to have Mardi Gras parades ever again.
Hence why I found it so uplifting to discover that the parades were still held the following year and the subsequent years to come. Mardi Gras is for celebration--and not just flashing your tits for beads. :D Although, I confess I did my share of that during my stay for the sake of "tradition". I also have precious little in the way of modesty!
Here's a fun link on Mardi Gras in New Orleans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Mardi_Gras. At some point I plan to revisit the city, especially since so much of the city's money comes from tourism. And gods, do I love New Orleans!
If people know of good, reputable websites and organizations to help rebuild New Orleans and help the people who are still being affected by Katrina, please send them my way and I'll edit this post to include them.
Edit: here's a link for my vegan jambalaya recipe, made easy: http://adriannebrennan.livejournal.com/72744.html

"Oh, I'm a published author!"
There are certain moments when it really hits me: wow, I'm a published author! This has been my dream for the past two decades of my life, and it's great to finally see it fulfilled. A bit surreal, even.
One of those moments hit today when I received my first royalty check in the mail. Omgs. It never matters how much or how little that damned check is--never let anyone fool you on that one--but the fact that you got one at all along with that nifty official-looking statement.
Omgs.
Getting copies of my ebook on CD was equally thrilling. I think I danced around my living room with the silly thing while my cats looked upon me in confusion. "Mrr? Mrrrr?"
Then there was the moment my book first went up on the website. Wow. Just...wow. RELEASE DAY!! Release days are ALWAYS awesome and I look forward to my next one! (April-ish looks to be the target, more later when I have it)
Also, my first CD sale. That made me seriously squee. And on a side note, I'm glad that I made the book signing party into just that--a party. I didn't want anything formal, or to make speeches, or crap like that--just have lots of food, conversation, and good times. Just like a party. And it's my book party, so I can if I want to...nyah, nyah, nyaaahhhh. LOL
All of these little moments add up, I think. And I'm damned thankful to come this far. It just shows that if you don't give up on your dreams, you can make them happen. THAT'S real magic.
:)

Blue roses!
Blue roses to go on sale in Japan
TOKYO (AFP) - Think that red roses are predictable? In Japan, gift-givers soon will also have the option of blue roses.
The Japanese company that created the world's first genetically modified blue roses said Monday it will start selling them next year.
Suntory Ltd., also a major whisky distiller, hopes to sell several hundred thousand blue roses a year, company spokesman Kazumasa Nishizaki said.
"As its price may be a bit high, we are targeting demand for luxurious cut flowers, such as for gifts," he said. The exact price and commercial name for the blue rose have not been decided.
The company is also growing the rose experimentally in Australia and the United States to get approval for sales, but no timing has been set for commercial launches in the two countries.
Suntory in 2004 unveiled the world's first genetically modified blue rose after 14 years of study which also involved Australian researchers.
It created the flowers by implanting the gene that leads to the synthesis of the blue pigment Delphinidin in pansies. The pigment does not exist naturally in roses.

Anyone who knows me knows that blue roses have always been my personal symbol. I even have one tattooed on my back. :)

Happy Imbolc!
For those of my readers who celebrate the holiday, Happy Imbolc!
Regardless of whether or not you do... what plans do you have for the upcoming spring? Vacation time, projects, writings...?
I have a short story that you'll hear more about in the upcoming months--probably around March or April. And yes, it's set in the Dark Moon series with some of the characters. :) I also have a ton of writing projects underway, and then there's the nonstop project that is my house.

Happy Friday! :D
The question got asked this week on one of my emailing lists: how much time per day do you spend on the computer? The second question was, how much would you prefer to be spending?
My response was succinct: "Too much." "Much less."
When you are both a writer and a computer programmer, you spend WAY too much time on the computer. At an 8-4 job, you're there for at least 8 hours. Then there's the time you spend at home on the computer, which is another 1-6 hours right there depending on what else you have going on that evening. That's 8-14 hours PER DAY!
The question then becomes, where do you have outlets for escaping the computer? Or are your outlets ON your computer? Me, I work out on my eliptical when I can, go out to socialize, and on rarer occasions, watch a movie with my kitties. My time on the computer is best served, when possible, either writing, chatting, or playing World of Warcraft.
Tonight I have friends coming over for a potluck/tv series night. I plan to be on the computer as little as possible.
Enjoy your Friday night!

Update on short story, plus paganism and the occult in fiction
Happily, the edits to my short story for the GLB anthology have gone off to the main editor. Yay! I should be hearing official word at some point on the whens/ifs of my story going out, and it's looking pretty good. I really want to treat everyone to lesbian vampire erotica, and the Babalon ref I suspect may be a draw as well.
I haven't seen an awful lot of references to Thelema in fiction with the exception of writers like Piers Anthony and Alan Moore. There's one other I recall, but it's all any association being bad, evil, et cetera. Sometimes I wonder if people just don't bother doing research before using a wide brush. When I talked with my reviewer, one comment he made about my book was that it was a great book written by someone who obviously was either genuinely involved in paganism and the Mysteries or by someone who did a LOT of research--and most people who attempt writing such a book wind up going Hollywood. One thing I had tried to do in my book was place real elements within a fantasy setting. People write about Christians, doctors, lawyers, and all sorts of REAL things within fantasy novel. Why should the realms of pagan religions, witchcraft, and Western Mystery trads in general be any different? In any event, I didn't want to write the next "Charmed" for magicians, and I'm glad to hear that those who have read my book thought I succeeded in avoiding just that.
In the meantime, I has chai. This is good.

The book signing party!
On the whole, a very successful event. Despite the conflict with a major goth club night that evening, about twenty people showed up.
The first--and earliest--to arrive was none other than Mike Gleason, who had reviewed my book and wanted the chance to meet me! I was pretty psyched, not to mention flattered. Very nice guy. We babbled for a while on trad paganism and cats and I've decided quite naturally that he's good people.
A bunch of other people arrived, some of whom I knew from meeting them at other places, some who were good friends of mine, and others whom I had never before met but wanted to check out my book. We all had a great time, and a LOT of wine was consumed. I was greatly amused to find that much of the soda I purchased was barely touched, but I think about 7-8 wine bottles went buh-bye. In fact, someone had to go out and buy more wine! LOL LOL
It was a lot of fun, and something I'd definitely do again.
And as suspected (and secretly hoped) I have some books leftover from the event, so I will be attending other parties with them and I suspect will make a few sales. Just call me Your Local Vampire Smut Vendor.
*mwahaha*
